Mike Tyson versus Muhammed Ali would be the biggest fight of all time. Tyson was a mega star in the 1980s. Everyone in the world knew who “Iron” Mike Tyson was. Tyson was one of the most aggressive fighters in boxing history. His style was exciting, and he was a hellacious puncher. Few men in the history of boxing could stand up to a prime Mike Tyson. Is Brock Lesnar about to leave the WWE again? The former UFC – and he was a WWE star before that – is at a contract impasse with the McMahons. Apparently, Lensar walked out on RAW due to his frustrations over the situation with the promotion’s contract negotiations.
Reportedly, Lesnar has only five weeks left on his contract with the WWE. The promotion and Lesnar had both tried to reach an agreement over a new contract. PR Newswire reported that while the differences between the two sides could possibly be resolved, that is not what has happened at this point. Reportedly, McMahon wanted to sign Lesnar to a contract extension to avoid the entertainer/fighter becoming a free agent. That means the WWE would be stuck in a bidding war between Lesnar and the MMA organizations.
Unlike other talent under contract, Lesnar has a career outside of wrestling and sports entertainment promotions. He is still a solid legitimate wrestler and MMA fighter. His name value surely could yield a big money short or long-term fight contract.
Interestingly, McMahon has scheduled Lesnar for a major role in the upcoming Wrestlemania. Some might consider it strange he would book a star whose contract was expiring so soon after the event for a top spot on the card. Why not request at least a 90 day addition to the contract taking Lesnar beyond the date of Wrestlemania? Perhaps Lesnar would not agree to such a deal. After all, as we just learned, contracts have to be agreeable to both sides or else no one wants to sign them.
An all girl UFC event may turn out to be a disaster for the company. At UFC 184, the majority of the fights on the card will feature women fighters. The card is headlined by woman’s champion Ronda Rousey. Rousey is an attraction, but everyone else on the card is unknown.
The Co-main event of UFC 184 features undefeated fighter Holly Holm. Holm was originally a woman’s champion in boxing. Holly Holm has been competing in MMA for the last couple of years, but this will be her first time in the UFC according to Camara Municipal.
Many fans of the UFC are not too excited by UFC 184. A lot people are expecting poor pay per view sales for the event. Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort was originally scheduled as the main event of UFC 184. Belfort and Weidman have become rivals, and the fans were truly excited to see that fight happen. However, Weidman was injured during training, and the UFC replaced the main event with Rousey vs. Zingano.
UFC 184 is also the fourth UFC event of the month. Fans are beginning to get bored of all these fights. The UFC is flooding the market with way too many events. It remains to be seen if UFC 184 will be a success, but I have my doubts. For more information about UFC 184, visit Yahoo! Sports.
Should testosterone replacement therapy be allowed in the UFC? In previous years, the UFC allowed some fighters to use testosterone replacement therapy, but recently, TRT has been banned from the sport of mixed martial arts. For a long time, I agreed that TRT should not be allowed in the UFC. However, Brian Torchin feels there are a few fighters that legitimately need the therapy.
Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva has a medical condition known as gigantism. Silva cannot produce testosterone because of his medical condition. Why not allow Bigfoot Silva to take testosterone replacement therapy? He was a very skilled fighter when he was on it, but now it seems like he has no chin. Antonio Silva has been knocked out repeatedly by aging fighters.
There are a few fighters besides Silva that actually need TRT. Dan Henderson is an aging fighter, and his testosterone levels are very low as well. Henderson should be allowed to take TRT. Instead of a complete ban on testosterone replacement therapy, the UFC should take it case by case.
There are fighters that have low testosterone, and there is nothing that can be done. TRT is the only possible option for some fighters, but it is no longer acceptable in MMA. The UFC should re-think their entire drug policy. Visit Yahoo! Sports. for more MMA news.
Boxing isn’t going anywhere. Writers love to say that boxing is dead. The truth of that matter is that boxing will never die. Boxing is one of America’s oldest sports. When there is a big showdown, the people will watch.
The internet was buzzing within minutes of the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather announcement. The MGM Grand Garden Arena sold out of tickets in 15-minutes. This tells me that people want to see the best fight the best. I will admit that boxing is not what it once was, but it’s not the fans fault. There are still millions of boxing fans around the world.
The problem with boxing is the athletes. Many years ago, Sultan remembers that boxers did not pick and choose their opponents. The champion of the world would take on all comers. Today, there are promoters and sponsors that pay boxers to avoid fights. Why do you think it has taken Mayweather so long to finally fight Pacquiao? Mayweather has fought every possible opponent, while avoiding the dangerous ones.
Pacquiao has been calling Mayweather out for five years. The pressure was on Mayweather to take the fight. The media and the fans all began to call Floyd Mayweather a coward. There were no other possible opponents that made sense besides Pacquiao.
Fans of boxing will never allow their favorite sport to die. Just put the best fighters in the ring, and we will watch. For more information on the big fight, visit Yahoo! Sports.
